What We Can Do
There are lots of ways in which we can add a bit more green into our urban areas and allow nature to take its course. They range from small adjustments to the way in which we live our daily lives to bigger changes to our environment – but each of them is a step towards a greener, more resilient city.
Nature based solutions: Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS)
SuDS are one way of mimicking nature to provide solutions to our current problems. They capture water at the source and allow it to infiltrate before it becomes a problem, or convey it to natural storage areas where it can provide benefits to humans and wildlife rather than be a nuisance.
Below, we are putting together an overview of the different types of nature based solutions that you might want to consider implementing in an urban area. Are you misconnected?
Make sure that you are not contributing to water pollution in your local river. Misconnected sewers lead foul water directly into streams and rivers, with detrimental effects on wildlife. If you are the property owner, you are responsible for fixing misconnections!
